The Montana 700 is a very good GPS
Not very hard to learn it's operation. The staff are readily available to help with any operating questions. The only thing I am not impressed with is the Base Camp map but works well to download and upload your maps to the device or the memory card. The files GPX are compatible with the former Delorme program which was a very good topographical program you can copy your GPX file to it and print excellent realistic maps. I highly recommend the Montana 700.

Some good features, but not a solid step forward for Garmin
As a LONG time Garmin user and owner of several GPS units I have to say that I was generally disappointed in this 700 Montana. The principle reason is the screen; unless the sun is shinning directly on it, it poorly illuminated outdoors. Additionally, Garmin left out the voltage step down circuit in the unit and instead provided a bulky cumbersome wiring harness that it very unhandy to use. The battery life is Way Short of what is advertised so providing external power is essential for back country travel; at least if the intention is to be out all day. I feel they unit only deserves a C.
